We just arrived to Iceland.
Time to discover all that can be done here.
Marianne used to live in Iceland but never discovered any multipitch, trad and alpine stuff. (Really regret that!)
It’s because of some Icelandic friends that She now join the Worldcup Iceclimbing. If they hadn’t dragged me out in Winter time I’d still be a lousy boulderer :)
We drove Dennis’ 4×4 VW Syncro over the beach to the end of the road underneath the Vestrahorn (West-point-mountain)
On our first day we accidentally discovered a semi-bolted unfinished line on the right side under the face of the mountain, but as the ones who started the line still want to finish it themselves we bailed.
Tough we opened a single pitch trad not far left of the bolted line. At about French 6a. We call it ‘Vijf.Tien’ because all routes that seem ‘more difficult’ then ‘easy’ used to be graded here as 5.10 (YDS).
As we weren’t sure of where to go and what we were ‘allowed’ to climb we decided to drive to Hnappavellir and consult the locals in the sports/trad area there.
